Building Insurance protects against Damage to the Structure of your Property together with its Fixtures and Fittings. Ensure that the Policy covers you for the items that are important to you including Fire, Subsidence, Theft, Flood, and Storm. This Policy may also provide coverage for your Legal Liabilities as a Homeowner and Occupier.
Home Contents Insurance protects against Damage or Loss of your Possessions. Possessions are normally those items you would take with you if you moved. Ensure that the Policy covers you for the items that are important to you including Fire, Subsidence, Theft, Flood, and Storm. This Policy may also provide coverage for your Legal Liabilities as a Homeowner and Occupier.

Health insurance plans are available from BUPA Blue Cross which is a large provider of health insurance coverage here in Thailand. They have a local office in Chiang Mai and a representative that speaks English. They will accept applicants up until a day before your 66th birthday and health plans up until 70 years of age. In Thailand third party motor insurance coverage is mandatory for all vehicles except for motorbikes, modified farm trucks and modified samlors. All owners are required to obtain insurance for injuries or death caused by their vehicles.
Drivers are required to renew their vehicles registrations once a year and part of this process includes obtaining a new insurance sticker.
As to additional insurance (1st class insurance) it is up to the owner to decide if they want to take it out.
You have to get the basic coverage which is about 2,000 baht. If you do not do much driving then it may not be necessary to get the full coverage.
So operating a motor vehicle here becomes considerably less costly to own here. Lower gas prices, lower cleaning costs if you do not clean the vehicle yourself, very low insurance cost is an option, lower repair costs, and no rust.
Motorcycle Insurance is required and must be renewed each year when you get your Motorcycle Registration.
Make sure that you Read the Policy before you Sign it. You may want to have a Lawyer review the Policy before Signing. Your Chiang Mai Lanna House Agent can recommend a Lawyer if you wish.
Verify the Exclusions and Excesses. These explain what your Policy DOES NOT COVER. You (and your Lawyer) should read the Policy to ensure what is covered and what is NOT. If there is anything you do not understand, ask the Insurance Provided to Explain it to YOU (and your Lawyer).
Consider Additional Coverage for items not considered Normal. These would be available for an Additional Charge. Please question your Provider to Explain these to you also.
Payments are usually made Annually but some Providers may accept Installments. Remember, any delay in Payment may leave you UNCOVERED.
